GD IV syllabus [ART 4404]

GD IV branding
course description and objectives: 

Logo development, branding and visual identity issues are explored in depth. In this course, students are involved in extended projects exploring identity systems with various applications such as packaging, signage, print and web design. Research and methodology are vital components of the course. Students are expected to continue to refine their knowledge and application of typography and design technology.

learning outcomes:
After completing this course, the student will be able to:
• Understand the procedure for research criteria as a basis for identity design
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of logo development, combining type and image for a recognizable branding/identity vocabulary
• Demonstrate a disciplined and cohesive approach to applying a well-developed branding vocabulary across a variety of types of media such as print, packaging, signage and web page design
• Utilize bookmaking and paper assembly techniques to create custom design solutions appropriate to brand identity
• Display the ability to make judgements concerning their own work as well as the work of others based on a functional knowledge of composition, typeface selection, visual hierarchy and the use of type as “voice.”
• Utilize drawing and a wide variety of media as a basis logo development
• Exhibit skill in typeface selection and the use of “type as voice”
• Express, in critique situations , the proper use of the vocabulary of design to formally analyze composition, use of positive and negative space, and concepts and effectiveness of the applications of brand identity
• Work within the predictable stages of the creative process as it applies to design and work flow
